SMC Increases East Anglia One Presence

Following the establishment of an office within the OrbisEnergy centre, Lowestoft, SMC have been awarded a contract to provide Client Representatives to Scottish Power Renewables for the East Anglia One offshore wind project.
The contract relates to the supply of Client Representatives for the installation of Scour Protection, Piles, Jackets and Cables, as well as for Grouting Operations and WTG Package Works.
East Anglia One is located off the coast of East Anglia and will utilise port facilities at both Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. The project, when operational, will consist of 102 7MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines culminating in a combined project capacity of 714MW.

The East Anglia One project aims to support employment opportunities locally and Scottish Power Renewables £2.5 Billion investment in the project will see economic benefits for the east of England. At least 50% of the project investment will be spent in the UK.
SMC Client Representatives have already been deployed to provide their expertise in overseeing the installation of Scour Protection. 
Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd, Maxmart Shipping and China Marine Surveyors & Sworn Measurers Pen Taiwanese MOU
Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd (SMC), Maxmart Shipping and China Marine Surveyors & Sworn Measurers (CMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate for upcoming operations in Taiwan.
The three companies have teamed up to provide integrated solutions, primarily to the Taiwanese offshore wind industry.
SMC have significant experience within the offshore wind industry, having been involved in over 30 offshore wind projects to date (including developments in Taiwan and China, in addition to multiple projects throughout Europe), adding to the experience and expertise of Maxmart Shipping and CMS within the East-Asian marine market. Both Maxmart Shipping and CMS bring with them a comprehensive insight into the Taiwanese market, having been active within it for a number of decades, with Maxmart Shipping providing professional brokerage services and CMS delivering a range of offshore surveying services. 
The recently signed MOU will see the partnership offer a range of bespoke services, including; Marine Consultancy, Marine Coordination and Logistics, Vessel Inspection, Offshore Technicians, Client Representatives and Training services – all of which SMC have substantial experience in delivering to the European market. The proficiency of Maxmart Shipping and China Marine Surveyors within the region’s marine sector will further strengthen the partnership’s capabilities and will prove greatly beneficial in establishing and providing local content across projects.

The partnership will allow project developers to maximise project efficiency and to work to the highest safety standards, whilst building essential skill-sets by providing both theoretical and practical knowledge to local communities and businesses alike. The partnership is committed to maximising opportunities for people within the region and the delivery of industry specific training is core to achieving this. It is SMC’s ambition to train and work with local people to assist in developing the Taiwanese market, alongside the company’s key partners, Maxmart Shipping and CMS.

This represents a remarkable achievement for SMC, a small family owned business headquartered in Hunmanby, North Yorkshire.
The award is recognition of the outstanding performance of SMC’s staff over the past eleven years. SMC has successfully exported expert services globally; most recently this has included China, Taiwan and Canada, in addition to much of Europe.
Over a period of eleven years, SMC has grown from a one man operation into a thriving company consisting of over one hundred members of personnel, increasing its share and range of specialist services in the renewable energy sector after diversifying a number of services from the Oil and Gas exploration sector.

SMC open a new office in Lowestoft

In January 2018 Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd (SMC) opened their new office at OrbisEnergy, Lowestoft.
Over the past 11 years the company has grown dramatically, with this latest expansion taking place in concurrence with what is an extremely exciting time for the Energy sector in East Anglia.
OrbisEnergy is a premier centre of excellence for offshore renewables based in the East of England.
It is a prime location for the development of large Offshore Wind Farms and the Gas Industry in the Southern North Sea.
Commenting on the opening of the new office, SMC’s Sales Operations Manager Gary Horner said
“Our office at OrbisEnergy, the Offshore Renewable Energy hub in Lowestoft provides Specialist Marine Consultants Limited with a permanent presence local to the area.
This considerably enhances our ability in providing specialist solutions and support to existing and future Wind Farms Offshore East Anglia; and the energy sector as a whole.”
With twenty-three years Operational and Project Management experience within the Petrochemical and Renewables Industry, Gary has gained an extensive track record in supporting large multi-discipline projects across the UK and Europe, onshore and offshore.
Gary will be based at OrbisEnergy, Lowestoft supporting projects in East Anglia and further a field.
